Motivation: People who are a healthy weight are generally more motivated. This may be due to them having more energy, be because they feel better about themselves or because they feel fulfilled that they have been able to achieve a healthy weight when so many others haven’t.
Women who lose and maintain their weight loss are also more likely to succeed in other areas of their lives such as work. Research has suggested that in society today being overweight can be associated with personality shortcomings meaning that those who are a healthy weight are perceived as more likely to be able to get the job done.
Self-Esteem: Not everyone who is overweight has low self-esteem but losing weight can help boost yours. If you can easily find clothes that fit and look good when you go shopping and know that you look your best when you step out the door in the morning it has to have a positive impact on your self confidence.
If you are, or have been, overweight no doubt you know that feeling of looking in the mirror and seeing your stomach bulging over your jeans or the fat on your back under your bra strap. You know it doesn’t look good. A few weeks of focused weight loss could boost your confidence no end!
If you feel good about yourself you will also radiate this and boost others’ confidence in you.
Reproduction: There is a correlation between being overweight and having difficulty in conceiving. Research has shown that overweight women are more likely to have irregular menstrual cycles and have difficulty conceiving. A recent study in the Journal of Obesity reported:
“The percentage of women with evidence of abnormal menstrual cycles was 2.6 per cent for women less than 20 per cent overweight, 4.0 per cent for women 20-49 per cent overweight, 5.8 per cent for women 50-74 per cent overweight., and 8.4 per cent for women more than 74 per cent overweight.”
Women who were overweight were also found to be more likely to have facial hair growth, Scary!
Kids: If you have children, if you are overweight your children are also more likely to have weight difficulties. This is thought to be due to eating patterns and that our children develop their eating patterns from our behaviour. If they see us overeat regularly they are more likely to overeat. Why Lose Weight?
